Obituary of Dora Bigham

Dora May (Costello) Bigham, 95, of Danbury, beloved wife of 58 years to the late Francis J. Bigham, died peacefully at Danbury Hospital on Tuesday, June 5, 2018.  She was born in Bethel, daughter of the late Edward and Carrie Costello on March 9, 1923.

Dora enjoyed vacationing in Provincetown, MA every summer with her husband, children, grandchildren, and eventually great grandchildren. She hosted all family holidays with her favorites being Thanksgiving, Christmas, and holding her annual Easter Egg Hunt for all her grandchildren.

Dora could hold a conversation with anyone young or old about current events, politics, and any sport including her favorite, the Mets. This most likely accounted for her often winning at her weekly Trivia Monday where she hosted up to 11 or 12 friends every week for nearly 20 years.

Dora learned how to use an iPad six years ago to keep in touch with her big family. We often joked that she progressed in 95 years from having an outhouse to using an iPad.

Everyone will miss her amazing smile and how she welcomed everyone into her home. She was the glue that held together her family, friends, and neighbors.

Dora is survived by her children David (Barbara “Cookie”), Keith (Trish), Brian (Peggy), Patricia Zadrozny (Ben), and Michelle Tortora (Norm Asmar); her twelve grandchildren, Tracey ( Phil), Terri (John), Jen (Paul), Carrie (Frank), Sean, Timmy, Sarah (Brendan), Ryan , Tyler, Brian (Tina), Adam (Katie) , Corey (Jess) and 20 great grandchildren. She is also survived by sister-in-law Barbara Bigham.

She was predeceased by her sister Ana May Carey and her granddaughter Deborah Bigham.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 12th at 10:00am at St. Gregory the Great Church, Danbury.  Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Monday between the hours of 4:00 and 7:00pm.

Donations may be made in her memory to her favorite organizations, Disabled Veterans, Wounded Warriors, St. Jude Children’s Medical Center, or The Shriners Hospital.
