Obituary of Armando Tomaino

Bethel - Mr. Armando Tomaino, age 99, of Bethel, passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 16, 2018 at his home. He was the husband of the late Mary (Corona) Tomaino.

Mr. Tomaino was born August 18, 1918 in Italy son of the late Raffaele and Rosina Tomaino.  As a young man, he worked as a caddie at the Ridgewood Country Club and also as a hatter. He was retired after working as a Chef at Armando's Restaurant in Bethel which he owned with his brothers until the early 1970's. After selling his restaurant, he worked as a custodian at Newtown Middle School for many years. Armando enjoyed playing golf, watching  college football and many other sports and reminiscing about old times with family and friends. He was an avid New York Mets fan and a New York Giants season ticket holder for many years.

Mr. Tomaino proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during World War II.

Mr. Tomaino is survived by his nephews: Richard Scalzo and his wife Mary Jo of Ohio, Richard Gimigliano of Arizona, and Bob Gimigliano and his wife Pat of Arizona, his niece: Jean Scalzo of Ohio and many great and great great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers: Anthony and John Tomaino and his sisters: Grace Tomaino, Teresa Scalzo and Antoinette Gimigliano.

A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday May 23, 2018 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Danbury. Family and friends are asked to please meet directly at the church. Burial with full military honors will be in St. Peter's Cemetery in Danbury. There are no calling hours. The Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury is in charge of arrangements.
