Obituary of Roderick N. Schmaling
Brookfield - Mr. Roderick N. Schmaling, age 83, of Brookfield, passed away peacefully at the Glen Hill Nursing Home in Danbury on Wednesday May 2, 2018. He was the husband of Lavinia (Schlegel) Schmaling.
Mr. Schmaling was born October 9, 1933 in Port Chester, New York, son of the late Albert and Lucy (Mingotte) Schmaling. He was retired after working for 35 years as an Engineer at Pitney Bowes and was an active member of the Brookfield Congregational Church. He was an avid organic gardener and naturalist, liked the outdoors, enjoyed animals and volunteered as a Boy Scout Leader for over 30 years. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy during the Korean War.
In addition to his wife Lavinia, Mr. Schmaling is survived by his daughter: Donna Ruokonen and her husband John of Valparaiso, Indiana and his son Mark Schmaling and his husband Daniel VanDam of Bridgewater, New Jersey.
Graveside funeral services and burial will be held on Friday May 4, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Greenwood Union Cemetery, 215 North St., Rye, New York. There are no calling hours.
