I found out about George passing and still can't believe it. I remember as a kid growing up around him at ps115 since he worked with my dad. George was a giant teddy bear of a man. He had a big heart. I will truly miss him.

I am sorry to hear about this. I taught music at PS115 under Mr. Tomka for several years and I will mostly remember him for supporting me as much as he could in helping me to have a successful music program as the school. I will always remember the time when he called me into the auditorium after we had a major fire in which all of our recently purchased musical instruments were destroyed. I'm still not sure which of us was more heartbroken. He had his heart in the right place.
My condolences to his family.

My deepest condolences. As a former student of PS115, I had much respect for Mr. Tomka. My mom worked as an aide at the school for years and thought very highly of him as well. May he rest in peace.

Dear Pat, Christie, Jimmy and family,
We are so sorry to hear of George’s passing. Our history goes back 40 years when we started out as new teachers at PS 115 M. Over the years we have shared each other’s joys and sorrows. We have celebrated our children’s weddings, grandchildren’s births and been there to support each other at the times of our parents’ deaths.
I was glad I got to see him at home where, although weak, we were able to reminisce about family and friends.
Our prayers are with the family in this time of sorrow.

So many years, so many memories, so much laughter. For those of us fortunate to have spent the bulk of our teaching careers at 115, the passing of George is an extremely sad moment. He will be fondly remembered by all of us.

I had the great pleasure of knowing and working with George for almost 30 years.
He was the heart and soul of P.S. 115, Man., setting a tone of caring, compassion, and
positive direction for all the children as well as all the staff. He will be greatly missed.
Rest in peace my friend.
