Obituary of Jennie M. Barrett

Jennie M. Barrett July 03, 1918 - May 02, 2010 Jennie M Barrett Jennie M Barrett went peacefully to be with the Lord early Sunday morning May 2nd 2010.MaudeJennie was born on July 3, 1918 in Danbury, CT Daughter of the late Howard W. Taylor and Maude Elizabeth (Smith) Taylor. After attending Balmforth Avenue School, Jennie entered the work force as a housekeeper for the family of Harold B. Wiley. Later, she went to work at Bard-Parker Co. of Danbury, which was then managed by Harold B. Wiley. Jennie stopped working outside the home to care for her mother and mother in law whom she and her husband brought to live in their home. After the death of her mother and mother in law Jennie went back to work outside the home at The Capitol Machine and Switch Company, assembling switch parts until the company was sold in 1983. Jennie met her husband, Warren V. (Buddy) Barrett in the late 1950's. Buddy drove an old beige Dodge Fastback coupe that always smelled of "Real" car and sawdust. Buddy was a faithful loving husband, a fine carpenter and a fine Christian who lived the words of the Bible out in his life every day. Jennie and Buddy married in 1958 and moved into the new house he lovingly built for her and dedicated to the Lord in West Redding. Buddy made sure their home was big enough to provide not only for Jennie and himself but also to welcome family and friends and to care for both of their mothers. In 1994 Buddy preceded Jennie in going to be with the Lord. Surviving family members include a brother; Howard Frank Taylor, living at the Advent Christian Village in Dowling Park FL; a sister, Marion Clark living in DeLand FL; a nephew, A. Frank Taylor of Danbury; a niece Robin Wells of FL; and a great nephew, Chad Wells, of West Redding. In a humble response to the Bible's command to repent Jennie called upon Jesus to save her as a young girl growing up in Danbury and attending a local Bible preaching church. Jennie became a member of Calvary Independent Baptist Church of West Redding, CT, in 1997 and has been a faithful loving member ever since. Jennie's love of her Savior, the Bible and children led her to many years of faithful service as a Sunday school teacher. Although the Lord never gave her children of her own she took many of us under her wing and directed us to Jesus, the Bible, and the Holy Spirit Who inspired every word to be written. Jennie's daily Bible reading and prayer not only changed her life in conforming it to Christ but doubtless changed the lives and circumstances of many others. Her victories and accomplishments will not be measured in worldly achievements as men measure each other in this life, but rather in how God measures and will measure men by every word in the Bible on that Great Day. Jennie's achievements and reward will be seen in her obedience to the Bible and in the lives she directed to Jesus for eternal salvation and victory over sin. Jennie did not have one of man's religions, she had true Bible salvation and a living relationship with the Jesus of the Bible. Her constant question was "Why don't people want the Lord as their Savior; He is so good?" Because of Jennie's love of the Bible and desire to be conformed to Christ she died as she lived; faithful, patient, loving, thankful, generous and kind to the very end. We are so happy that she has finished her race well and crossed the line to her eternal reward and to the Savior she loved and served faithfully since her conversion. We will miss her and wonder how our lives might change now that she will not be here praying for us, but we rejoice for her now and are grateful we had the privilege of walking with her for the time that God gave us.So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord."
