Obituary of John R. Goehrke

John R. Goehrke March 12, 1925 - April 21, 2009 John R. Goehrke, of Brookfield, passed away peacefully in his home Tuesday morning surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 84. Born in Berlin, Germany, March 12, 1925, to Theo and Hertha Goehrke, John came to New York City in 1950, where he met the love of his life, Mary Lumia, at a social function in Brooklyn, New York. She was 18 and he was 25 and they were married the following year, which marked the beginning of a 59 year romance. They raised three boys, who in turn gave them 11 grandchildren and his family was always John's pride and joy. John had a 40 year career with Amphenol/Bunker Ramo, in Danbury, where he was Director of Human Resources and Industrial Relations. He was known for his work ethic, served as a mentor to many, and took great joy in helping others in their careers. In addition to his beloved wife, Mary, John is survived by his three sons. The oldest is Gary and daughter-in-law, Sheila and their children, Steven (married to Caroline) and April. The middle son is Robert, who is engaged to Patricia Poling, and their children, John, Paul, Robert, Laura, Marcus and Megan. And the youngest son is John, and daughter-in-law, Jacquelyn, and their children, Brynn, Peter and Jane. His grandson and name-sake, John, is getting married this Saturday to Risa Roberson of Cleveland, and the family knows that Grandpa will be there in spirit. John also leaves his brother, Hardy and sister-in-law, Inge and brother-in-law, Sal and sister-in-law, Marie as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. As John said last week, "I lived a life of no regrets and spent it with my beautiful soul mate." His life will be celebrated by all his family and friends. Funeral Information Funeral Services will be held at the Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road, Brookfield on Thursday, April 23rd at 1:00pm. Entombment in Wooster Mausoleum will follow. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday morning between 11:00am and 1:00pm. Donations Information Donations may be made to Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut, who provided invaluable assistance to the family.
