Obituary of Leighton Royal Genaway

Leighton Royal Genaway June 15, 1930 - March 07, 2007 Leighton Royal Genaway, 76, of Stadley Rough Road, Danbury, husband of the late Cecilia (Humiston) Genaway, died at Danbury Hospital on Wednesday, March 7th. He was born in Brainardsville, New York on June 15, 1930, son of the late Reuben and Blanch (Sherman) Genaway. Mr. Genaway was a Veteran of the Korean War, serving with the United States Army as a Wireman in Artillery Communications, stationed in Alaska. He retired from Curtis Packaging Company of Newtown. His past employment included Batchelders in Newtown, Alcoa Plant in Messena, NY, and St. Lawrence Seaway Locks. He also worked at one time as a dairy farmer in Burke, NY. Mr. Genaway was a member of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare; the American Association of Retired Persons, and AAA Auto Club. He is survived by his son, Marvin E. Merrill and his wife, Tarsia of Danbury; his two daughters, Linda Merrill and her partner, Dave Thacker of Poughkeepsie, NY, and Susan Bernard and her husband Michael of Danbury; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Fern Harrington, Frances Dunn, and Eleanor Dyer; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Terry Genaway; his brother, Willard Genaway; and two sisters, Hazel Chapin and Doris Dunn. Funeral Information Funeral Services will be held at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Friday, March 9th at 6:30pm. Burial in Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Ellenburg Depot, NY., will take place on Saturday, March 10th at 3:00pm. The family will receive friends at Cornell Memorial Home on Friday between the hours of 5:00 and 8:00pm.
