Obituary of John Rogers Bailey

John Rogers Bailey April 24, 1927 - June 22, 2006 John Rogers Bailey, 79, of Danbury, died peacefully on June 22nd at Danbury Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Danbury on April 24, 1927, son of the late Ralph and Anna Merritt Bailey. John graduated from Henry Abbott Technical School and attended Bridgeport University. He enlisted in the Navy and served his country during the Second World War. For many years, he worked at the Barden Corporation, Drake Engineering, and Amphenol before retiring in 1987. As an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, his service included: Chairman of the Board of Elders, Chairman of the Ushers, choir member and volunteer for projects on many occasions. John was Chairman of the local branch of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and Regional Chairman from 1983 to 1984. As an avid golfer, John was a member of Richter Senior Men's club and was involved in numerous tournaments for charitable events. These included: Danbury Hospital Cancer Tournament, AIDS, YMCA, DAYO, The Anne Olsen I CAN, Mayor's Cup and Immaculate High School Tournament. While spending three months each year in Palmetto, Florida, he was involved with fundraising for the Southeastern Guide Dogs for the Blind. John is survived by his loving wife, Eileen, and their children, Wayne, Kraig, Diane, Lenore and son-in-law, Michael Alves; one sister, Caroline Wood; a sister-in-law, Karen Bailey and a brother-in-law, Werner Janssen and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Jesse and George Bailey; and five sisters, Elizabeth Roos, Barbara Lovejoy, Arlene Burnham, Joyce Benton, and Dorothy Bailey. Funeral Information A Memorial Service for friends and family to celebrate John's life will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 18 Clapboard Ridge Road, Danbury, on Saturday, July 1st at 11:00am.
