Obituary of Jennie Alice Dunn

Jennie Alice Dunn January 17, 1914 - February 23, 2005 Jennie Alice Dunn, age 91, beloved wife of the late Bertrand Dunn died on February 23, 2005 at Maefair Health Center in Trumbull where she had resided for the past 3 years. Born in Roxbury CT on January 17 1914 she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Gavel Pokrywka. She spent her childhood in Roxbury raised on the family farm along with her 10 brothers and sisters. She graduated in 1931 from Booth Free High school in Bridgewater where she boarded with close family friends so that she could complete her high school education. Jennie was a Catholic and a member of St. Joseph Ladies Guild. She was an accomplished seamstress who was called upon to create garments for wedding parties. She was employed by Reads Department store, White Turkey Inn, The Hotel Green and Durkins Dinner where she had a devoted following. She took great pride in her baking and her children and grand children especially enjoyed her peanut butter cookies. She is survived by her daughters Janet Dunn Conners of Bridgeport and Sharon Dunn Etzel and her husband Gerard of Southport; brother Louis Pokrywka and wife Jane of Florida ; Sister Catherine Hancock of Danbury; grandchildren Shawn Conners, Gregg Conners and companion Florence Mercer, Matt Conners and wife Leila, Minette Conners, Wayne Britto, Brian Britto and his wife Jackie, Jaime Britto and his wife Darlene, Sharon Doherty and her husband Dan, George Britto and Tyler Etzel; Sisters in-law Mary Pokrywka and Annie Dunn; 7 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by Daughter Carole Britto and husband Howard, sisters Anna Egan and her husband John, Mary Pokrywka , Caroline Tomanio and husband Felix, Julia Cole and husband Hilliard, Eva Machno and husband John; brothers Joseph Pokrywka and wife Josephine, Albert Pokrywka, Paul Pokrywka and wife Ennie and brother in- Law Donald Dunn Funeral Information A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church, Danbury, on Wednesday, March 2nd at 10:30am. The Family will receive friends at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Wednesday between the hours of 9 and 10:00am.
