Obituary of Elsie DelMonte

Elsie DelMonte May 08, 1917 - January 24, 2006 Elsie (Ceppo) DelMonte, 88, of Birch Drive, Bethel, devoted wife of the late Jack DelMonte, died in Florida on January 24th. Mrs. DelMonte was born in Danbury on May 8, 1917, daughter of the late Vitorio and Delfina (Rappa) Ceppo. Elsie spent her childhood years in Danbury, where she met the love of her life, Jack; they were married on February 19, 1938. The two made their home in Bethel in 1955. She maintained a winter residence in Delray Beach, Florida. Elsie worked as an office manager for Lovells. She was an active parishioner of St. Mary Church, Bethel where she was a Past President of the former St. Mary's Guild. She also served on the Board of Catholic Charities for 36 years and was involved in the development of Augustana Homes. She also served as an Admission Chairman for Augustana Homes. For her efforts in these capacities she received the "Mary Dolce Memorial Award" in 1984. Elsie proudly registered as a Democrat the moment she was able to vote and remained a strong supporter of the Democratic Party throughout her life. In 1957 she became a member of the Democratic Town Committee. She later served on the first Chapter Commission in Bethel; the Zoning Board of Appeals; and Bethel's first Housing Authority. On the State level, she served on the Democratic State Central Committee; she was appointed by Governors Grasso and O'Neil as a trustee of the Southbury Training School. Mrs. DelMonte loved to devote her time to helping those in need. In addition to her political involvement, Elsie was involved for more than 60 years with the POCAHONTAS Degree of the Improved Order of Redmen. She had also served as the National President of this fraternal organization and held the offices of state President and Local President. Elsie was a very special person. She served her neighbor, her Town, her State, her Country and her God with her time, her knowledge and her heart. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends, including, her cousins, David Caruba and Delia Ferrarone; her sisters-in-law, Helen Dekker and Marge DelMonte; her brother-in-law, Frank Richichi; and cousins in Italy. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews. Elsie was predeceased by her dear sister-in-law, Virginia Scalzo. Funeral Information A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 1st at 10:00am at St. Mary Church, Bethel, please meet at church. Burial in Wooster Cemetery will follow. There are no calling hours. The Cornell Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements.
