Obituary of Helen Dekker

Helen Dekker April 07, 1917 - June 14, 2009 Helen (DelMonte) Dekker, age 92, of Bethel, wife of the late John Paul Dekker, Sr., died peacefully at her home on Sunday, June 14th. She was born in Danbury on April 7, 1917, daughter of the late Mario and Carmella (Massena) DelMonte. Mrs. Dekker was a homemaker who lovingly maintained the family home. In her younger years, she volunteered for the Red Cross, during wartime. She was a parishioner of St. Anthony Church in Danbury and attended many Ladies Guild functions. She was a member of AARP Chapter 3340. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing in leagues through Brookfield Lanes. She also enjoyed playing bingo and going to Mohegan Sun Casino. She will be sadly missed by her son, John P. "Butch" Dekker, Jr, and his wife, Doll of Fayetteville, NC; her two daughters, Shirley A. Gunther and her husband, Kurt, with whom she made her home, and Pat Cypher and her husband, Lou of Bethel; her seven beloved grandchildren, Bonnie Hatch and her husband, Gary, Katherine Kenny, Kurt Gunther, Jr. and his wife, Jackie, Francis Main and his wife, Nancy, Barbara Andrews and her husband, Rick, Louis Cypher Jr. and his companion Roxanne Meyers, John P. Dekker, III and his wife, Sherry. She is also survived by fifteen great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her two great grandchildren, Kurt Gunther III, and Christine Main; two brothers and two sisters. Funeral Information A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 18th at 10:00am at St. Anthony Church in Danbury. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury on Wednesday, June 17th between the hours of 6:00 and 8:00pm.
