Obituary of Marion C. Damato

Marion C. Damato July 16, 1918 - April 03, 2007 Marion C. Damato who was 88 and a former resident of Norwalk and Danbury, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family in her home on Tuesday, April 3rd at the Village at Brookfield Commons in Brookfield. She was born in Danbury, on July 16, 1918, daughter to the late Mario and Lydia Ferraro Cresci. Marion moved to Norwalk as a child and graduated from Norwalk High School in 1936. She was the widow of Joseph Anthony Damato, Sr. to whom she was married for 49 years. Marion was a secretary at the Bradley Oldsmobile car dealership in Norwalk for 19 years and later worked for the Danbury Health Department until her retirement. She found great pleasure in caring for her beloved dogs, reading, traveling, visiting her parent's retirement home in Vermont and cheering for her grandchildren at their sporting events. Marion is survived by a son, Wayne Damato and his wife Margaret of Warwick and Narraganset, RI; two daughters, Kathleen George and her husband Thomas of Fairfield, and Charlene DeGrazia and her husband Rosario of Brookfield. Sadly she is predeceased by her eldest son Joseph Anthony Damato, Jr. for whom she held loving memories close to her heart since his unexpected passing. In addition she is survived by Joseph's widow Joan Damato of Norwalk, CT. "Mato" as she was lovingly known to her fourteen grandchildren; Lori Damato, Lisa Frederick and her husband Brian, Dacia Coppola and her husband Richard, Danielle Talisse and her husband Charles, James Damato and his fiancée Jasmine, Jill Wilson and her husband Peter, John Damato and his wife Elizabeth, Joseph Damato and his fiancée Lauren, Lisa Grant, Steven Grant, Alexi George, Jodie Rickert and her fiancé Gracian, Rosario DeGrazia, Stacie DeGrazia; five great grandchildren; Leighann Lagana, Brooke Bartlett, Casey Frederick, Marc Coppola, Kylie Coppola and one great great grandchild, Theresa Moore. Funeral Information A mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at 10:00am at St. Joseph's Church, Main St., Danbury, with interment following in St. Peter's Cemetery. Friends and relatives are welcome at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury on Monday, April 9, 2007 from 5 pm to 8 pm. Donations Information In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Marion's name. Donations may be sent to the Danbury Animal Welfare Society, 147 Grassy Plain, Bethel, CT 06801.
