Obituary of Albert R. Cavalier

Albert R. Cavalier May 13, 1922 - February 19, 2006 Albert R. Cavalier of Old Stadley Rough Road, Danbury, died February 19th at Danbury Hospital at the age of 83. Mr. Cavalier was born in Poughkeepsie, NY on May 13, 1922. He was the son of the late Rocco and Sundae (Manzi) Cavalier and the stepson of Frank Miguel, Sr. Mr. Cavalier received a Sergeant rank in the European Theater during World War II. He served as a top classified courier for the 979th Signal Motor Messenger Corps. He was deployed to France for the landing at Omaha Beach. He was assigned to the 12th Army where he served as a courier between the 1st, 3rd and 9th Armies, covering Germany, Belgium, Luxemburg and Holland. In June of 1947 Mr. Cavalier married Arline B. Nalley at St. Joseph's Church in Danbury. Mr. Cavalier worked for 18 years for the Barden Corp of Danbury. He also worked as a real estate agent for Simone Agency. Prior to his retirement, he was a Fairfield County Sheriff for 8 years. Mr. Cavalier served the community as a member of the Danbury Common Council. He served as Council President for 4 ½ years. He was a former member of the Democratic Town Committee and the Danbury Parking Authority. He was a member of the Padanaram Hose Co #3 Fire Department for over 50 years. Mr. Cavalier was also a member of the Amerigo Vespucci Lodge #160, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and St. Gregory the Great Church. Besides his wife of 58 years, Arline, Mr. Cavalier is survived by three daughters, Karen Shan and her husband Richard of Port St. Lucie, FL; Debra Cavalier of Danbury; Allene Granja and her husband, Michael of Middlebury; nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and brothers Philip Cavalier and Frank Miguel, Jr. He was predeceased by his sister, Dorothy Miguel Grosso. Funeral Information A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 23rd at 10:00am at St. Gregory the Great Church, Danbury. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Wednesday, February 22nd between the hours of 5 and 8:00pm.
