Obituary of Theodore J. Burtnik

Theodore J. Burtnik March 18, 1920 - June 28, 2008 Theodore J. Burtnik, 88, of Great Plain Road, Danbury, husband of Betsy (Holomany) Burtnik, died at his home on Saturday, June 28th. He was born in New York, NY on March 18, 1920, son of the late Theodore and Mary (Okonski) Burtnik. Mr. Burtnik was a Veteran of World War II, proudly serving with the United States Army. He was a recipient of the American Service, Good Conduct, Asiatic Pacific Service, World War II Victory and American Defense Service Medals. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for heroism in action against the enemy in the Philippines Islands, and was wounded in action at Luzon, receiving two Purple Hearts. His dedication to service continued throughout his life, working as a New York City Police Officer and later as a Lieutenant Firefighter for Ladder 37 in the Bronx. He owned and operated McWilliams and Burtnik General Contracting in Westchester County. He was a member of the Retired Uniform Fire Officers Association. In addition to his beloved wife of 10 years, Betsy, he will be sadly missed by his three daughters, Thea Walace and her husband, Kevin of Oswego, NY, Blair Burtnik of New Rochelle, NY, and Amina Grisetti of Jensen Beach, Fl; his two grandchildren, Angelo and Amber Grisetti. He is also survived by his brother, Wallace Burtnik of Spring Lake, NJ; his in-laws, William and Sally Holomany of Danbury; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Rita Burtnik; and his sister Rose Bastein. Funeral Information Funeral services will be held at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Wednesday, July 2nd at 7:00pm. Cremation and interment in Wooster Mausoleum will take place at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening between the hours of 5:00 and 7:00pm.
