Obituary of Phillip S. Burr

Phillip S. Burr September 15, 1927 - March 25, 2007 Phillip S. Burr, age 79, of Brookfield died on March 25, 2007 at Danbury Hospital after a long illness. He was the devoted husband of Martha (Merwin) Burr. He was born September 15, 1927 in Danbury to longtime Brookfield residents Lawrence and Helen (Seger) Burr. Raised in Brookfield on the family Dairy farm, he would later manage and run the farm until 1977 at which time he was employed by the Town of Brookfield Highway Department for 20 years until his retirement in 1997. He was a founding member of the Newbury Congregational Church and in later years could always be found in the church kitchen carving meat at public suppers. He was an avid gardener and outdoorsman who loved spending many hours tending his plants and walking the woods. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in March of 1956. While serving at Fort Gulick in the Canal Zone of Panama he received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Besides Martha, his wife of 48 years, he is survived by 3 daughters: Bonnie and Christine Burr both of Brookfield and Becky (Burr) Petro and her husband Jeremy of Woodbury, CT; three brothers: Raymond Burr and his wife Judy of Sebastian, FL, Donald Burr and his wife Ruth of Brookfield, John Burr and his wife, Donna of Sharon Springs, NY; 2 sisters: Marilyn (Burr) Ober of Brookfield, Marji (Burr) Carmody and her husband Richard of Brookfield; a sister-in-law Mildred N. Burr of Brookfield; brother-in-law Timothy Merwin and his wife Virginia of Wilton; brother-in-law Howard Fales of Redding; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brother Lawrence Burr, Jr; sisters-in-law, Alice (Merwin) Fales and Jane Merwin; and brother-in-law Murrell Ober. Funeral Information A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2007 at 11:00 AM at the Newbury Congregational Church at the corner of Tower Rd. and Route 133 in Brookfield with the Rev. Paul Ricard officiating. Interment in Hillside Cemetery, Wilton will be at the direction of the family.
