Obituary of Elizabeth Mary Volz

Elizabeth Mary Volz March 25, 1916 - June 22, 2006 Elizabeth Mary "Marie" Volz, 90, of Haley Street, Danbury, devoted wife of the late William Volz, died at Glen Hill on Thursday, June 22nd. She was born in the Bronx on March 25, 1916, daughter of the late John and Theresa (Cominsky) Redden. Upon the passing of her mother, Marie age 15, helped her father in the raising of her five younger brothers and sisters. In 1936, she and her husband were married. They began their family in the Bronx and moved to Danbury in 1965. The two would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this year. Marie was a loving and dedicated teacher's aid at Stadley Rough School for more than 35 years. She also taught sewing at the Singer Store on Main Street, Danbury. She loved to work with her hands, sewing, and knitting. An active parishioner of St. Gregory the Great Church, Marie enjoyed membership in the church Ladies Guild and Senior Citizen Group. She volunteered her time and donated many sewn dolls and other crafts to the church Christmas Bazaars and Carnivals. Marie made her home at the Gardens in Danbury for the last two years. She loved to play Bingo, and socialize. She was well loved by the staff and her many friends at the Gardens. A loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she will be sadly missed by her son, Robert Volz and his wife, Linda of Brookfield; her daughter, Anne Higgins of Washington D.C.; and her daughter-in-law, Barbara Volz of Ridgefield; her five grandchildren, Jennifer Sheppard, Kenneth Volz, Kristin, Andrew and Daniel Volz; her great granddaughter, Hailey Alexandra Sheppard; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by her son, William R. Volz. Funeral Information A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Gregory the Great Church on Monday, June 26th at 10:00am. Burial in St. Peter Cemetery will follow. The family will receive friends at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Sunday, June 25ht between the hours of 5 and 8pm.
