Obituary of Dorothea Surovy

Dorothea "Thea" Surovy September 16, 1913 - April 10, 2005 Dorothea "Thea" Anna Surovy, age 91, of South Well Ave., Danbury died peacefully on Sunday, April 10, 2005 surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Samuel M. Surovy. Mrs. Surovy was born in Danbury on September 16, 1913, a daughter of the late Michael and Barbara (Ruopp) Schweitzer. A lifelong Danbury resident, she was a member of the 1932B Danbury High School graduating class. She first worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Kubisek. Later she became a bookkeeper working first for John Chuvala, CPA and then for Gene McRedmond, CPA, retiring after over 20 years of bookkeeping. Mrs. Surovy was a very active member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church serving as Past President of the Ladies Aid and the Immanuel Lutheran School Guild. She also assisted with the fund raising for the building of the Immanuel Lutheran School. For many years, she volunteered in the care of Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. She was also an active campaigner for the Diabetes Assoc. Mrs. Surovy is survived by her four children: Dorothea (Thea) Senior and her husband Jack; Adele Tarlton and her husband Tary; Samuel Surovy and his wife Jeri all of Danbury; and Ellen Silkman and her husband Claude of New Fairfield; six grandsons: Lars Wallin and his wife Darlene of New Milford, Les Wallin and his wife Hayley , Lance Wallin and his wife Rebecca, Samuel M. Surovy, Jr. all of Danbury, Justin Silkman of New Milford, and John Senior and his wife Sheryl of Cheshire; five granddaughters: Laura McGoff and her husband Michael of South Boston, MA, Linda Senior of Danbury, Courtley Morits and her husband Scott of New Fairfield, Amanda Mertz and her husband Matthew of Richmond, VA, and Lindsay Glynn and her husband James of Danbury; 12 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; a sister -in-law: Dorothy Schweitzer of Shelton, CT; and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law Mary and John Layok of Danbury. She was predeceased by five brothers and five sisters. Funeral Information The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 at 10:00 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Walt Harper officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 12, 2005 from 5:00 until 8:00 in the evening at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury.
