Obituary of John J. Sullivan

John J. Sullivan Jr. May 09, 1926 - October 22, 2004 John J. Sullivan, Jr., age 78, of Danbury, died on Friday, October 22, 2004 at Harborside- Glen Hill Care Center. He was the devoted husband of Margaret (Pivarnik). Mr. Sullivan was born in Danbury on May 9, 1926, a son of the late John J. and Mary (Ronan) Sullivan. He was educated in Danbury attending St. Peter's School, Danbury High School and was a graduate of Wooster School. Jack was the captain of the football team at Wooster School and as a freshman, played for Brown University. He received a B.A. in English from Brown University, Providence, RI. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Jack was employed for over 40 years as an Insurance Underwriter for New York Life Insurance Co. He was the first underwriter in Danbury to receive the C.L.U. certification from the American College of Life Underwriters of Bryn Mar, PA . Always active in civic affairs, Jack served as President of the Danbury Life Underwriters Assoc.; Chairman of the Human Rights Commission; and Chairman of the Danbury Redevelopment Agency. He was on the Board of Directors of the M.C.C.A of Danbury and was a member of the Catholic War Veterans. Jack served as a lector for many years, first at St. Joseph's Church and then at St. Gregory the Great Church. An avid golfer and tennis player, Jack enjoyed many winters in Sarasota, FL. Besides his wife of 55 years, he is survived by 6 children: Susan and her husband Roland Therrien of Plainville, Gerald and his wife Joan Sullivan of New Milford, Michael Sullivan of Scottsdale, AZ, Patrick Sullivan of Danbury, Christine Reeve of Cedar Park, TX, and David Sullivan of Kent; 4 granddaughters: Sheila Charbonneau of Oakville, Jenna, Taylor and Brianne Reeve of Cedar Point, TX; 2 great grandchildren: Kayla and Tori Lynn Charbonneau of Oakville and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Andrew R. Sullivan. Funeral Information A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 27, 2004 at 10:00am at St. Gregory the Great Church. Interment will follow in Wooster Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 26, 2004 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm- in the evening at Cornell Memorial, 247 White Street, Danbury, CT.
