Obituary of Raymond C. Straiton

Raymond C. Straiton Sr. December 02, 1930 - April 03, 2006 Raymond C. Straiton, Sr., 75, of Beaver Bog Road, New Fairfield, devoted husband of Jean (Grover) Straiton, died at Danbury Hospital on Monday, April 3rd. He was born in Danbury on December 2, 1930, son of the late Frederick and Dorothy (Barber) Straiton. He was a graduate of Henry Abbott Technical School, and was a Veteran of the Korean War, serving in Austria with the United States Army. Mr. Straiton worked as an electrician with the union, I.B.E.W Local 488, retiring at the age of 65. He was a member of the Southern New York Racing Association and enjoyed driving at the Danbury Race Arena. He was a past member of the Danbury Horseshoe Club; and a fifty-five year Member of the Beaver Brook Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a member of the Hahlawah Rifle and Pistol Club of New Fairfield, the New Fairfield/Sherman Sportsmen Association and the National Rifle Association. Mr. Straiton loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and riding his motorcycle. He especially enjoyed his beloved dog and constant companion, Squidge. In addition to his cherished wife of 55 years, Jean, he is survived by his two sons, Raymond Straiton, Jr. and his wife, Tina of South Paris, ME, and Steven G. Straiton and his wife, Kathleen of Kent; his daughter, Gale Plank and her husband, Kevin of Danbury; his four grandchildren, Kelly Grover, Robin McAllister, Joshua and Kyle Straiton; his step granddaughters, Christina and Heather Plank; and step great granddaughter, Cassandra Plank-Pinho. He is also survived by his brother, Irving Straiton of New Fairfield; his sisters, Doris Hample and Shirley Kelly, both of Danbury, Nancy Green of TX, and Patricia Martin of CA.; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Frederick Straiton, Jr. Funeral Information Funeral Services will be held at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Friday, April 7th at 11:00am. Burial in Wooster Cemetery will follow. The family will receive friends at the Cornell Memorial Home on Thursday, April 6th between the hours of 5 and 8pm.
