Obituary of Marilyn E. Schmidt

Marilyn E. Schmidt December 25, 1942 - November 27, 2009 Marilyn E. "Ozzie" (Oswald) Schmidt, was born on December 25, 1942 in Jackson Heights, NY, daughter of the late John Oswald. She passed away on Friday, November 27th at her home, surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Robert C. Schmidt and will be sadly missed by her three children, Erick Schmidt and his daughters, Skye and Laura of Helena, Montana, Karen Schmidt and her fiancee, Barry Burgess of New Milford, and Robert Schmidt of Redding. Marilyn is survived by her older sister, Lorraine and her husband, Harold Adelman, as well as her niece, Melissa Goldrosen, all of New Jersey. She is also survived by her brother in-law, Paul Schmidt, of New York. Marilyn and Bob were married in October of 1963. They moved to Brookfield in 1973 where they raised their family. She was an employee for the Town of Brookfield for 25 years - 23 years spent at the Brookfield Public Library and 2 years at the Brookfield Town Hall. Upon retiring in 2003, Marilyn and Bob built a home in Warren, which Marilyn designed and oversaw the construction of. They have enjoyed living there for the past six years. Marilyn was an avid reader until her disease impaired her vision. She was a great lover of animals of all kinds, especially her cats, Annie, Millie, Buddy and her grand-dog Oliver Marilyn was loved by many for her quick wit and unique sense of humor. Not many people could make others laugh over an "inoperable brain tumor." She enjoyed being outdoors, working in her garden, bike riding and walking - all of which gave her strength to fight her courageous battle. Marilyn was an inspiration to all who knew her, particularly during this difficult time. The Schmidt family wishes to thank all those who gathered around them and supported them during this difficult time. Funeral Information A Memorial Service to celebrate Marilyn's life will be held on Saturday Dec. 5th 2009 at 1:00 pm. at the Warren Congregational Church. The family will receive friends at the Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road, Brookfield, on Thursday Dec. 3rd 2009 between the hours of 5:00 and 7:00 pm. . Donations Information In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Brain Tumor Society or an Animal Humane Society of your choice.
