Obituary of Donald W. Sauer

Donald W. Sauer Sr. December 03, 1919 - October 30, 2004 Donald W. Sauer, Sr. age 84, of New Fairfield died at his home on Monday, October 25, 2004. He was the husband of the late Mary "Betty" Elizabeth (Fairchild) Sauer. Mr. Sauer was born in Danbury on December 3, 1919, son of the late Joseph H. and Martha (Stuckenschneider) Sauer. He was a graduate of Danbury High School, Class of 1937. Mr. Sauer was a Veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Navy as an Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic. He then worked as a printer for Hamilton Press for more than forty years. He was a founding member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepard, and enjoyed maintaining the church grounds. He was a Charter Member of the Lake Candlewood Power Squadron, an active member of the Danbury Fish & Game Club, where he served as treasurer for more than fifty years, and was also a member of the New Fairfield/Sherman Fish and Game Sportsman Club. He was also a charter member of the New Fairfield Parks and Recreation Commission and was honored with an Appreciation Award for thirty-four years of services, from 1960 to 1994. Mr. Sauer enjoyed bowling with the Men's Church League and the Germantown Firemen's League. He was an active parent and an avid sportsman who coached for many youth sports. He is survived by four children: Donald W. Sauer, Jr. and his wife Joyce of Hopewell Junction, NY, Jack W. Sauer and his wife Marie of Danbury, Donna Gray and her husband Eugene of Jacksonville, FL, and Joan Schneider and her husband Frank of Danbury; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Viola Wegner and her husband, Richard of Towson, MD. as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his beloved wife, he was predeceased by his brother, Joseph H. Sauer, Jr.; and his three sisters, Frances Haitsch, Lois Sniffin and Carol Sauer Funeral Information The funeral service will be on Saturday, October 30th at 11:00am at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepard, New Fairfield. Interment will be at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Danbury. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 29th between the hours of 5 and 8 pm at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury.
