Obituary of John Salvatore
John Salvatore
October 24, 1918 - March 02, 2010
John Salvatore, loving husband of Rose (Butera) Salvatore, died at the Crossings Health Care Center in Lake Worth, FL on Tuesday, March 2nd. He was born on October 24, 1918, in Sorbo, Italy, son of the late Franceso and Agnes (Montecalvo) Salvatore.
At the age of 14, he immigrated to the United States with his parents and siblings, residing in Yonkers, NY, prior to moving to Connecticut. Here he met and married his "Rosie," the love of his life on June 1, 1940.
He worked as a Hat Forming Machine Operator until he was drafted into the Army in August of 1943. He returned home from his tour of duty in Okinawa and was honorably discharged as a CPL in February 1946.
John retired from American Cyanamid after 34 years of service as a mechanic and became a fulltime resident of Lake Worth, FL. He was a life member of Amerigo Vespucci Lodge Order Sons of Italy, and a member of the Lake Worth Men's Golf Association.
He enjoyed bowling, playing golf, and watching his Yankees on TV or in person. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. He was "Poppa" to his grandchildren and their spouses and "Big Poppa" to his great grandchildren, all of whom he adored so much. Each of them will always have special memories whether it was teaching them how to swing a golf club or playing a game of cards. He loved to make his "special" meatballs or stuffed peppers, always making extra to freeze before going home to Florida.
In addition to his wife of almost 70 years, Rose, he will be sadly missed by his son, Frank and his wife, Carole (Colla) Salvatore; his two grandsons, Frank Salvatore and his wife, Sheryl, Paul Salvatore and his wife, Patty; one granddaughter, Tina Marie Morrissette and her husband, Jim; and five great grandchildren, Matthew and Kaitlyn Salvatore, Josh, Alex and Cameron Morrissette.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Adeline Octavio and Mary Pannozzo; and his brother, Orlando Salvatore. Funeral Information
