Obituary of Prof. Patrick J. Rohan

Prof. Patrick J. Rohan Sr. June 14, 1933 - November 26, 2009 Prof. Patrick J. Rohan of New Fairfield, CT and Hilton Head Island, SC, beloved husband of 51 years to Janet (Black) Rohan, died on Thursday, November 26th at Yale New Haven Hospital. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on June 14, 1933, son of the late Thomas and Honora (Moriarty) Rohan. He received a B.A. and J.D. magna cum laude from St. John's University School of Law, tying for first place with Mario Cuomo when graduating from law school. Thereafter, he obtained an LLM from Harvard University, and a J.S.D. from Columbia University. Prof. Rohan served as a First Lieutenant with the Judge Advocate General of the United States Army. He was a law professor and Dean Emeritus of St. John's University School of Law, retiring in June after 52 years of service. Prof. Rohan taught over 20,000 law students in his career. He was a prolific treatise author, and the leading expert in the fields of Coops, Condominiums, Real Property and Trust and Estates. He was also a member of the Knights of Malta and served a two-year term as the President of the International Association of Jurists Italy-USA-Switzerland. In addition to his wife, Janet, he will be sadly missed by his eight children, Lauri Rohan-Griffin (and her husband, Tim), Terry Keebaugh (and her husband, Karl), Patrick J. "Rick" Rohan, Jr., Janet McCarthy (and her husband, Neil), Amy Rohan, Courtney Rohan Rockett (and her husband, Nat), William "Billy" Rohan (and his wife, Erika), and Kaitlin Gavin (and her husband, Sean). He is also survived by 19 cherished grandchildren; his brothers, Timothy Rohan (and his wife, Eileen), John Rohan (and his wife, Jan); his sister, Mary Rohan; many nieces and nephews; and countless extended family members and friends whom he loved dearly. Funeral Information A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 30th at 10:30am at St. Edward the Confessor Church in New Fairfield. Burial will follow in Wooster Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Sunday between the hours of 2:00 and 5:00 pm.
