Obituary of Fredrick E. Potter

Fredrick E. Potter December 30, 1941 - December 01, 2009 Fredrick "Fred" Edward Potter, of Brookfield, born on December 30, 1941, in London England, second son to the late Mary and Victor Potter, died peacefully on Tuesday, December 1st at home after a courageous battle with cancer. He will be missed by his wife, the love of his life, Rita; and his two sons, Lawrence and his wife, Lynn of New Milford, and Roger and his wife, Bonnie of West Simsbury; his grandchildren, Amanda, Xavier, Wilson, Eleanor, Jane and Marshall. He is also survived by his younger brother, Tony and his wife, Eloise and family of London; and a sister-in-law, Rose and Jim Nitchen of Aylesbury, England; and many nieces and nephews. He moved to America in 1974 while working for Readers Digest. He then settled in Brookfield in 1976. His job took him all over the world, making lifelong friends wherever he went. One of his proudest accomplishments was his 23 years of sobriety where as a "Friend of Bill" he made many new friends. He enjoyed golf and horse racing. Some of his fondest memories were with his family lounging by his pool. Always active throughout his life, Fred was slowed by 3 hip surgeries, and made good friends while rehabilitating at Danbury Hospital and Bethel Health Care. His fight with cancer began in 2006, he again made many new friends while battling cancer. Although he was thrown a few tough blows in his later years, his faith and strong will kept him going and he was always there to help as best he could. Funeral Information The family will receive friends at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Monday, December 7th between the hours of 3:00 and 8:00pm. Funeral Services will be held privately.
