When my wife and I sopke about Nick we always said that he had a
special way of making family and friends feel extremely welcome.
He always went beyond the call of duty as a host. There was always an
abundance of food and drink. It was always a fun time with him and Carmel
It was an honor for us to have him part of our family.
In his last few months he expressed to us that he will fight it to the end ...
and that he did! He was a real trooper.
I personally had great respect for him because he put my cousin Carmel first.
He was a great husband to her and loved her dearly. He will be very much missed. We will always have fond memories of the times
we shared with him and Carmel.
Now that the suffering is over may he rest in peace. God Bless.

Nicky was one of the best people I have ever known, and I am privileged to have been his friend. He had a wonderful zest for life, he loved living and being with Nick for any occasion was always a joy.
Most importantly, Nick loved and cherished his wife (and my best friend) Carmel and took such good care of her. And he loved and adored their poodle child Roxie. It is so sad for all of us that their years together, and the love and the joy and the great adventure Carmel and Nick shared in their marriage was cut short by Nick's tragic illness. Even in his last days, Nick's greatest worry was leaving Carmel alone, and doing everything within his power to insure that Carmel would be alright after he was gone.
Everyone who knew Nick, knew what a great patriot he was. Nick so loved his country and the men and women who defended it throughout history, that he treasured each and every item in his collection of military memoriabilia because each item held a story about an individual who had given their sweat and their tears and sometimes even their lives for their country. Spending time with Nick and listening to him tell stories of each item was fascinating, not just because Nick brought the stories to life with amazing detail, but because of the respect and the compassion Nick had for those individuals who had served their country and the details of their lives he remembered every time he looked at the things they had left behind.
It is said by some that those who have passed on continue to live in the memories of those who are still here. If that is so, then through his joyful memories of those people and their heroic contributions, Nick Penachio brought continued life for many decades to hundred of soldiers who fought for their country.
Nick will certainly continue to live on and will live well and joyously for many years to come through those of us left behind who loved him, and think about him every day and how he enriched all of our lives.
We know you are up there Nicky, watching over Carmel and Roxie. I just thank the powers that be you are not suffering any more, and that you are finally at peace.

Carmel,
I know Nicky is in a better place and not suffering anymore. The snow storm that we are in the middle of I'm convinced he sent it so we could appreciate all the beauty of nature. I will miss him and I'm here for you always.
Much love,
Barbara
