Obituary of Harold Nohe

Harold Nohe March 10, 1914 - March 24, 2007 Harold Nohe, 93, of Candlewood Lake Road, New Milford, devoted husband of Margaret (Hoerning) Nohe, passed away peacefully at Bethel Health Care Center on Saturday, March 24th, 2007. He was born March 10, 1914, son of the late Louis and Sophie (Keehner) Nohe, in Middle Village, New York. He grew up in the Richmond Hill area of Long Island, virtually across the street from his future wife, Margaret. He graduated from St. John's University with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and went to work with the accounting firm of Peat, Marwick & Mitchell as a Certified Public Accountant. In May of 1940, he married his childhood sweetheart, Margaret. In 1951, Mr. Nohe came to this area as Treasurer of Heli-Coil Corp in Danbury. After being associated with other Danbury companies over a dozen years, he purchased Ball & Roller Bearing Company on Maple Avenue, Danbury, in 1965 and became its President and Treasurer. He remained in that capacity until his retirement in 1995 at the age of 81. Mr. Nohe was very committed to his community. He was a former Chairman of the Industrial Division of the first major expansion fund drive for Danbury Hospital. He was a former President and Treasurer of Candlewood Company Brookfield Volunteer Fire Department and was instrumental in the building of the Candlewood Shores Firehouse, where he was installed as an Honorary Life Member. He was a former Director, President and Organizer of the Association of Religious Communities (ARC). He was Brookfield's appointed representative for many years on the Candlewood Lake Authority. He has been a member of the Congregational Church of Brookfield since moving to Brookfield in 1951, serving as a former Building Fund Chairman, Church Moderator, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees. In 1990 he formed a committee to construct a Memorial Garden on the church grounds and was currently serving as its Chairman. He served on the Brookfield Board of Finance for 16 years and was a Selectman of the Town of Brookfield for two years. Mr. Nohe loved playing golf and was a member of Ridgewood Country Club in Danbury for 38 years, and later a member of the Candlewood Lake Club. He was also a Mason and a 50 year member of the National Association of Accountants. In addition to golf, Mr. Nohe enjoyed gardening and woodworking, and many of the wooden ghosts and deer he crafted are still displayed throughout the community. In addition to his wife of almost 67 years, he is survived by his children, Linda Fernand and her husband Edwin of New Milford, his son, David and his wife, Karen of Brookfield, his daughter, Deborah Sjolund and her husband Tom of Poway, CA. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, six step grandchildren, thirteen step great grandchildren, and a niece and nephew. He will be sadly missed as he was a wonderful and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to all. Funeral Information Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service of Thanksgiving and Celebration for the life of Harold Nohe, on Saturday, June 30th at 1:00pm at the Congregational Church of Brookfield, 160 Whisconier Road, Brookfield. All are also invited to attend a reception following the service in the Church hall. Donations Information The family would like to extend many thanks to the nurses and staff of Bethel Health Care Center for the wonderful care he received during his stay there.
