Obituary of Joseph A. McCabe

Joseph A. McCabe July 29, 1924 - January 09, 2006 Joseph A McCabe, 81 of Brookfield died January 9, after a long battle with cancer. He was the husband of Jean E. McCabe. He was born July 29, 1924 in Ireland, the son of the late Patrick & Elizabeth McCabe. The family moved to Mount Kisco New York when he was 5 years old. A World War II veteran, Mr. McCabe flew 30 combat missions over Germany serving as a Bombardier on a B-17 Flying Fortress. He was a member of the 305th Bomb Group, 366th Squadron of the Eighth Air Force. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant and was awarded the Air Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters. A Brookfield resident for 35 years, he was the owner of McCabe Realty. He was active throughout his life, even after his cancer diagnosis and enjoyed skiing, camping, ocean sailing, walking and working on his home. He was a member of St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church. In addition to his wife of 53 years, he is survived by 9 children and their spouses; Sheila Goehrke of Armonk, NY; Laurie Batchelor of Beltsville MD; Kerry McCabe of Oxford, CT; Joseph S. McCabe of Bethel, CT; Colleen Stryker of Monroe, CT; Bonnie Novak of South Salem NY; Patrick McCabe of Boulder; CO, Glenn McCabe of Brookfield, CT; Daniel McCabe of New Milford, CT, 11 Grandchildren and 2 Step-Grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, James McCabe of Florida. Mr. McCabe was predeceased by his brother Patrick and sister Mary. Funeral Information A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church, Brookfield, on Friday, January 13th at 10:00am. Burial in St. Peter Cemetery to follow. The family will receive friends at the Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road, Brookfield, on Thursday, January 12th between the hours of 5:00 and 8:00pm.
