Obituary of Steve J. Mancini

Steve J. Mancini April 27, 1927 - August 29, 2007 Steve J. Mancini, 80, of Danbury, died peacefully Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of June Mancini. Steve was born April 27, 1927 in Turi, Italy. He arrived in the U.S. at Ellis Island at the age of six. He attended St. Joseph's School and Henry Abbott Technical School in Danbury before enlisting in the U.S. Army and serving in Italy during World War II. In 1951 he married his true love, June (Lee) Mancini at St. Michael Church in Beacon Falls. The two shared 56 wonderful years together. A lifelong resident of Danbury, he worked as a driver for Valley Motor Express and for many years as a carpenter for Martino Brothers. He retired from Danbury Hospital where he was Maintenance Foreman. He was an active member of the Catholic War Veterans in Danbury and of St. Joseph Church in Brookfield. In addition to his beloved wife, June, Steve will be sadly missed by his daughter, Laura of Danbury; and two sons, Gary of Bolton, MA and John, of Aurora, IL; a daughter-in-law, Margot Knorr Mancini; four grandchildren: Ryan Mancini, Caitlin Mancini, Sophia Mancini, and Hannah Mancini; two sisters, Angela of Middlefield and Laura of New York City and a brother, Giacomo of Bristol. He is also survived by the families of his beloved friends and "brothers," the late Philip and John Martino. He was predeceased by a sister, Domenica and by his favorite dog, Beau. Funeral Information A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 1st at St. Joseph Church, Brookfield, at 10:00am. Burial in St. Peter Cemetery will follow. Friends may call at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Friday between the hours of 4:00 and 8:00pm . The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the staff of 9 East at Danbury Hospital for their care and concern for Steve.
