Obituary of John C. Macksey

John C. Macksey June 28, 1924 - January 17, 2006 John C. Macksey, affectionately known to his family as "Uncle Jack," passed away Tuesday (January 17) in New Milford, after a brief illness. Born in Caldwell, New Jersey in 1924, son of the late James and Mary (Coleman) Macksey. Jack's elementary education was in Manchester, at the St. James School. His high school years were spent at the St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield, and Seton Hall Prep in Orange, N.J. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during World War II with the Army Air Corps. in Europe. Following the military, Jack attended Wesleyan University, graduating with distinction in 1949. A faithful contributor and class agent, he remained active in alumni affairs and was a frequent visitor on campus. Jack's professional career was in sales; he was a longtime employee of the Firestone Company and a member of the Plastics Industry Pioneers. Uncle Jack's interests included travel, family, the New York Yankees, golf, tennis and his pets. He was a member of the Candlewood Lake Club where he was known by the nick-name "The Mayor" and St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Parish of Brookfield, where he was a communicant and lector. Jack was predeceased by his sister Margaret Jane Miner and his two brothers James and Robert. He is survived by nine nieces and nephews: Dr. Thomas and Coleen Macksey of Bennington, VT; Barbara and Paul Annetts of Morrisville, VT; Jean and Ed Trudel of Dorset, VT; John and Natalie Macksey of Arlington, VT; Susan and David Lyons of Manchester; David and Mary Miner of Manchester; Anne Zern of Simsbury; Deborah Miner of Manchester; and Sarah and Wayne Slitt of Simsbury. He leaves eighteen grandnieces and nephews and seven great grandnieces and nephews. Funeral Information A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 on Saturday, January 28th, at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church, 138 Candlewood Lake Rd., Brookfield. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in Arlington, Vermont. Calling hours will be on Friday, January 27th, from 3-7 pm at the Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Rd, Brookfield.
