Obituary of Gertrude King

Gertrude King February 24, 1914 - March 14, 2006 Gertrude V. (Coffey) King, 92, of Danbury Commons, wife of the late William L. King, Sr., died at Danbury Hospital on Tuesday, March 14th. She was born in Waterbury on February 24, 1914, daughter of the late Jeremiah and Viva (Reynolds) Coffey. She was a graduate of Mount St. Joseph High School in West Hartford. Mrs. King worked a sales person for Evelyn's Curtain Shop in Danbury and later in Food Service for Western Connecticut State University. She was an active parishioner of St. Peter Church in Danbury. She enjoyed volunteering at the Danbury Hospital and was a member of AARP. A lifetime member of the Danbury Community, Mrs. King was an avid Danbury Historian, especially the Mill Plain Section. She was honored with an award from the Danbury Scott Fanton Museum and Historical Society for her twenty-three years of volunteer service. Most importantly, Mrs. King was a devoted grandmother and great grandmother who was happiest with her family. She will be sadly missed by her three sons, William King, Jr. of Sherman, John King of New York, NY, and Robert King of Savannah, Georgia; her grandchildren, Robin Garavel, Bradley King, William King, III, Holly Lamarte, Perry King, Maxwell King, Mary Kay Cole, and Victoria King; as well as several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband of 48 years, William, she was predeceased by her brother, James Coffey. Funeral Information A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter Church, Danbury, on Monday, March 20th at 10am. Burial will follow in Milltown Cemetery, Brewster, NY. The family will receive friends on Sunday at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, between the hours of 4 and 7pm.
