Obituary of Margaret Kelly

Margaret "Peggy" Kelly December 07, 1917 - May 24, 2005 Margaret "Peggy" Halas Kelly, age 87, of Danbury passed peacefully on Tuesday, May 24, 2005 at the Laurel Ridge Health Care Center in Ridgefield. She was the wife of the late Walter F. Kelly. A lifelong resident of Danbury, Peggy was born on December 7, 1917 a daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret (Mego) Halas. She attended Danbury elementary and high schools. In 1948 while living in San Francisco, CA, she married the late Walter F. Kelly. After returning to Danbury, Peggy drove a school bus for the New Fairfield School system leaving her many students with fond memories. Margaret, known by many as "Aunt Peggy", was most remembered as a pillar of the Halas Farm Market which she and her late brother, Paul C. Halas, established in 1969. Together they mentored many young individuals and prepared them for future careers. By far, her prize pupil was Margaret (Maggie) Curran of Danbury. Her caring and resourceful ways will always be remembered by all of those whom she touched. Peggy was a lifelong member of Sokol Lodge 30 and of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She will be greatly missed, especially by her many nieces and nephews. Peggy is survived by 2 sisters-in-law: Mary Gertrude Halas and Nancy O'Connor; nieces and nephews: John Halas and his wife Tina, Paul Halas Jr. and his wife Lorraine, Patricia Halas, Elizabeth Halas and her husband Robert Burkhardt, Maureen Halas, Barbara Parks and her husband John, Geraldine Halas, Margaret Moy and her husband Jeffery, and Michael Halas and his wife Laura, and several great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 4 brothers: Joseph, John, Ludwig, and Paul Halas; 2 nephews: Joseph L. Halas, Richard J. Halas and a niece: Kathleen M. Halas Funeral Information The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2005 at 10:00 am at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Danbury. Burial will follow in Wooster Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 from 4:00 until 7:00 at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury.
