Obituary of Rita Ann Keenan

Rita Ann Keenan October 05, 1932 - January 21, 2006 On Saturday, January 21, 2006, Heaven gained and the world lost a beautiful and loved person. Rita A. (Kelly) Keenan, 73. She died peacefully at home with her family by her side. She was happily married for 51 years to Harold F. Keenan, Jr. who predeceased her in November 2005. Rita was born in Danbury on October 5, 1932, daughter of the late Bridget O'Connor and Leo P. Kelly, both of Danbury. Rita graduated from and worked for St. Vincent's School of Nursing in Bridgeport. Her nursing skills were instrumental in the raising of ten active children of her own. She also enjoyed ten beautiful grandchildren. She was a devoted mother who also made time for community involvement, teaching religious education as a member of St. Peter's Church Following her retirement from Grolier Enterprises, she extended her love for children at Danbury Children First. With a quick wit and unending sense of humor, she was loved unconditionally and was a role model to all. Rita is predeceased by two sons, James M. and Leo P. Keenan. Her caring and devoted children are Maureen Salinger of Brewster, NY, Susan Arconti of Brookfield, Phyllis Keenan of Danbury, Carolyn Keenan Smith, Maura Keenan of Danbury, and Jacqueline Keenan of Rochester, NY., Harold F. Keenan III of New York City, and Kelly Keenan of Danbury. She is predeceased by three siblings, Leo, Robert and Raymond Kelly. She is survived by two cherished sisters and a brother, Dorothy Hurgin of Bethel, Mary Kovacs of Woodbury, and Jack P. Kelly of Hope Sound, Fla. The Keenan Family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of Danbury Hospital Dialysis for their devoted care and compassion to Rita's care. Funeral Information The family will receive friends at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Tuesday, January 24th between the hours of 5 and 8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter Church, Danbury, on Wednesday, January 25th at 10:00am. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery.
