Obituary of Gail R. Bristol

Gail R. (Seamans) Bristol, 81, of Brookfield, died at Danbury Hospital on Saturday, December 9th.  She was born in Buffalo, NY on September 18, 1942, daughter of the late Angus J. Sr. and Leona (Andres) Seamans.  She graduated from Kenmore West High School in Kenmore, NY in 1960 and received an associate degree from Alfred State College in Alfred, NY in 1962.

Gail’s professional life started in sales and advertising for Kistler Instrument Corp. outside of Buffalo, NY. After taking time off for family, Gail resumed her professional life starting in the Brookfield school system as a library aide at Huckleberry Hill Elementary School, then as a school aide at Center School. She then worked for the Town of Brookfield as Assistant Town Clerk, and later took a position at the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE), retiring as Managing Director after 33 years of employment.  She was the founder of the SPE Foundation which provides college scholarships to those entering the plastics field.

During her career at SPE, Gail discovered her love of travel, and was proud to have visited 49 out of 50 States. Hawai’i was still on the horizon.

Gail’s volunteerism included serving as a Girl Scout Leader, and she also served on the board of directors of the Southwestern Connecticut chapter. Her later involvement extended to the American Cancer Society, Brookfield Play House, Relay for Life, and First Night Danbury.

Gail also was proud to serve her condominium association board of directors, most recently as its President until 2022.

Gail will be sadly missed by her two daughters, Kelly P. Bristol (Larry Holt), and Karen Foley (Bryan); her grandchildren, Brendan, Lauren, and Sean Foley; and her sibling, Angus J. Seamans III, half-brother Alan Stillman, and stepsisters Anne Higby-Pusateri and Barbara Higby Sherman, along with other relatives and close friends.

In keeping with Gail’s wishes, her family will honor her memory privately.

Memorial Contributions in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, an organization of which Gail was a longtime supporter.
