Obituary of Isabel P Shafto

Patricia (Ruckbie) Shafto, 89, of Danbury, beloved wife of the late William Alan Shafto, MD. died peacefully at Hancock Hall on Sunday October 15th.  She was born in Selkirk, Scotland on September 30, 1934, daughter of the late Pat and Mary (Graham) Ruckbie.

Her love of travel brought her to all seven continents. In her youth she lived and worked in Zimbabwe for several years. After returning to Scotland, she married Alan and together they emigrated to the United States. There she found great joy in raising her two children, working in the travel industry and playing tennis. She was active in the Danbury Junior Service League and served a term as its president. In her later years, Patty loved being with her 5 grandchildren and extended local “Scottish family”, often found dancing the Highland Fling to Alan’s bagpipes at holiday gatherings.

She will be sadly missed by her two children, Keith Shafto and his wife, Camille, and Jacqueline Sloan, MD; and her five grandchildren, Sophie, Emma, and Kate Sloan, Alec and Andrew Shafto.   She is also survived by her nephew, Jonathan Jamison of Norwalk and his wife Nancy as well as her niece, Fiona Moffett of Westford Massachusetts and her husband Sam.

She was predeceased by her sister, Myra Ruckbie.

In keeping with her wishes, there will be no public services.
