Obituary of Melinda Anne Albert

Sherman – Mrs. Melinda Anne (Whitten) Albert, age 76, of Sherman, passed away peacefully on Sunday August 13,2023 at the Candlewood Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center in New Milford. She was the beloved wife of Gary Albert.

Mrs. Albert was born November 7,1946 in Presque Isle, Maine, the oldest of 5 siblings, 4 sisters and one brother, daughter of the late Carl and Iola (Merrithew) Whitten. She was a graduate of New Milford High School, attended nursing school in Bridgeport, and retired after working for many years in the medical field at New Milford Hospital and Danbury Internal Medicine. She was a member of the Sherman Congregational Church, and served on the 200th Anniversary committee of the Bridgwater Congregational church.  Over the years, Melinda taught Sunday school and served as a past Town Republican Registrar of Voters for the Town of Sherman. She enjoyed crafting and designing greeting cards and ran a craft business named "Willow Pond Creations".  She was an active member of the Sherman Senior Center where she was an avid pinochle player and the Red Hats Club and a member of F.I.S.H. in Sherman and the Multiple Sclerosis Support Group for many years. Melinda was a very active follower of her boys all through cub and boy scouts as well as Little League attending all of their games.

Melinda was a true friend to all as well as a wonderful loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

In addition to her husband Gary, Mrs. Albert is survived by her children: Shawn Swett and his wife Pam, Bryan Swett and his wife Ivone, Melanie Montagna and her husband Bobby, Timothy Albert and his wife Joy and Jamie Albert, her siblings: Rachel Hughes and her husband David and Roberta Judd and her husband Joel, her 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her children: Gary Albert, Jr. and Tammy White and her siblings: Carl John Whitten and Marcia Tripp.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday September 9, 2023 at 11 a.m. at the Sherman Congregational Church, 6 Church Road, Sherman. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. The Cornell Memorial Home 247 White Street Danbury is in charge of arrangements.
