Obituary of Joseph R. Loughlin
Joseph Raymond Loughlin, 95, of Brookfield died peacefully at his home on Sunday, January 24, 2016. For over 70 years, he was the devoted husband of the late Mary Margaret (Murray) Loughlin.
He was born in New York City, a son of the late Timothy and Mary (Sheeran) Loughlin. He graduated from New York University with a B.S. in Metallurgical Engineering. Mr. Loughlin, a General Sales Manager, Metals Division for Union Carbide, relocated to Brookfield with the company. He was a long time parishioner of St. Joseph's Church in Brookfield and was a civic-minded man, who served on the Brookfield Board of Finance and was Chairman of the Commission on Aging from 1987-1989. In 2003, he was the 'first' recipient of the Brookfield Lifetime Public Servant Award. He also served as the Chairman of the Board of DATAHR from 1983-1984. He received the AARP Special Citation for Outstanding Service to the Community. He enjoyed being a Special Reader at the Center Elementary School and was a frequent correspondent to the News-Times through Letters to the Editor.
Mr. Loughlin is survived by his children: Dr. Gerald Loughlin and his wife Barbara of New York City, Joseph Loughlin of Falls Church, VA, Brendan Loughlin and his wife, Joan of Ridgefield, and Timothy Loughlin of Brookfield; six grandchildren: Ceila Loughlin, MD and her husband Peter Leuchtmann MD, Shaye Loughlin J.D. and her husband, William Brennan, DDS, Dalton Loughlin, Kathryn Loughlin, MD and her husband, Anthony Laurie, Meredith Loughlin, Conor Loughlin; and 4 great grandchildren: Nora, Max, Liam and Maura. He is also survived by 2 nephews John and Fr. Gerard Mulvey O.F.M. Cap and a niece Deidre (Loughlin) Macho. He leaves behind his dedicated caregiver and companion for the past 5 years, Mavis Acheampong.
Joseph was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Patricia Loughlin and a son, Dennis Gerard Loughlin; 5 siblings: Timothy, John, Gerald, Catherine and Joan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00PM on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at St. Joseph Church, Brookfield. Military honors will follow the Mass. Burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY will be at a later date. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11:30 AM until 12:30PM at the Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Rd., Brookfield.
