Obituary of Paul Scott Clayton

Paul Clayton July 17, 1938 - April 14, 2011 Paul "Scott" Clayton, age 72, husband of Catherine (Cappiello) Clayton of Bethel, passed away peaceful in his sleep at Danbury Hospital on April 14, 2011. Paul and Catherine were married on May 16, 1970. Paul was born July 17, 1938 in Philadelphia, PA to Paul and Louise (Porter) Clayton. He had an older sister Elizabeth. At an early age his family moved to Oreland, PA where he was a graduate of Springfield Township High School. He was President of the graduating class of 1956. Following his graduation, he attended Temple University and Pierce Junior College where he obtained an Associates Degree in Business. As a youth he was involved in Boy Scouts, various high school sports and was a member of the Oreland Volunteer Fire Department. He recently participated in their 100 year anniversary parade. From 1956-1964 he was a member of PA Army National Guard. He was 40 year member of the Stony Hill Volunteer Fire Department in Bethel, where he was affectionately referred to as "Scotty." He held the rank of Lieutenant, Captain and in 2007 he was "Firefighter of the Year." He spent his professional career in the food service industry with companies such as Spalding Bakery in Danbury, where he took great pride in his yearly responsibility with supplying bread and rolls to all food stands at the "Danbury Fair." He also worked for the "Eagle Snack" division of Annhauser-Busch Corp, Cape Cod Potato Chips, Sunbeam Bakery, Freighoffer's and Fairchester snacks. Upon retirement he drove for Seri and Greg Scott limousine services. He was bus driver for the Bethel Public Schools. He loved the kids on his bus runs and was often warmly recognized out in public by many of them. Although he would never pass up a trip to see the Yankee's, he was a passionate and devout fan of both the Philadelphia Phillies and the Eagles. No matter how poorly either team did, he remained a loyal fan often screaming at the television. Among his other pleasures were playing pool, traveling, reading WWII history, watching the game show "Jeopardy" and eating chocolate ice cream. He also loved spending time with his in-laws, Frank, Matt, Nick, Vincent, Michael, Erminia, and Mary Cappiello. In addition to his wife, Catherine, he will be sadly missed by his daughter, Maria Botelho and her husband James Botelho of New Fairfield and her two children Brandon Light and Christopher Botelho; his son, William Clayton and his wife Anna of Warren, and their four children Cristina, Jennifer, William and Sara; and another son, Scott Clayton and his wife Caryn of Bethel, and their three children Patrick, Elizabeth and Connor. He loved spending time with all his grandchildren. He had been estranged from four children from a prior marriage, Carol Emerson, Scott Craig, Glen Craig and Tracy Bartholomew, all of Florida. He never forgot about them and was happy to have established a good relationship with Carol, her husband Ted and their two children Noah and Haleigh. He has several nieces and nephews, notably his sister's children Mark Snyder of Chester Springs, PA; Diane Armstrong of Ambler, PA and Sharon Wurst of Warminster, PA. He was predeceased by his parents and sister. Funeral Information Funeral services will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Tuesday, April 19th at 10:00am.
