Joan K. Thunhorst
December 15, 1925 - April 16, 2010
Joan K. Thunhorst, 84, of Bethel, wife of the late Henry J. Thunhorst, died at Bethel Healthcare on Friday, April 16th. She was born in Chicago, IL on December 15, 1925, daughter of the late James H. and Margaret (Poulton) Kibrig and was baptized a Lutheran.
Joan was fortunate to live her life through her passions: the theatre, cooking and children. Joan was an accomplished singer and actress who performed on Broadway in many productions including Brigadoon, Once Upon a Mattress, Kiss Me Kate, and Do-Re-Mi. She also appeared in several TV commercials for products like Tide, Gleem, Mr. Clean, and Comet Cleanser.
After Broadway she taught singing as a vocal teacher for over 30 years, teaching from her home, Mercy College and in theater camps including her own camp, Succotash.
A love of cooking led her to partner with several dear friends in a highline cookware store, "Consider the Cook."
She loved dogs and enjoyed raising and showing Great Danes.
She will be sadly missed by her two sons, Henry "Trip" Thunhorst and his wife, Linda of Bethel and James Forrest Thunhorst of South Salem, NY; her two grandchildren, Clayton James Thunhorst, and Katrina Rose Thunhorst. Funeral Information
