Fred G. Standt July 27, 1927 - April 07, 2010 Fred G. Standt, of South Mountain Road in Brookfield, died with his family by his side on April 7, 2010 at Danbury Hospital. He was born in Queens, NY on July 27, 1927 to the late William and Catherine. He attended New York City Public Schools, Jamaica High School, and New Paltz State Teachers College. He was a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-46. Upon falling in love with his wife of 59 years Audrey (Ermentraut), Fred moved to Brookfield in 1950 and lived for the rest of his life in the home where he raised his family. A career sales professional, Fred retired from Carter-Wallace, Inc. in 1992. Fred epitomized the Rotary International philosophy of "service above self" as he served Brookfield and the surrounding area in many capacities including service on the Brookfield Planning Commission, Republican Town Committee, Substance Abuse Coalition, and Board of Finance. He also served on the Charter Cable Access Advisory Board, as a Deputy Sheriff in Fairfield County, on the Kings Mark Environmental Review Task Force, and helped expand the Rotary Club of Brookfield. A longtime member of Saint Joseph Church, he performed in many of the Minstrel Shows, served as an usher, participated in founding Boy Scout Troop 8, and helped coordinate the Catholic Men's Retreats and numerous other church functions. He was an avid fan of the New York Giants, New York Mets (after the demise of the Brooklyn Dodgers), and the UConn men's and women's basketball teams. He loved great stories, attending his grandchildren's sporting and theatrical events, and standing up for the rights of citizens and taxpayers. Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Richard of Point Pleasant NJ, Nancy Grimes and her husband Joe, Susan Feigin, and Roger and his wife Almeda - all of Brookfield; seven grandchildren Matt, Mark, and Emily Grimes, Nick Standt, Charlie and Audrey Feigin, and Robert Standt. In addition his sister-in-law Rosemary Ermentraut, brother-in-law Bill Martin, niece Colleen Martins and her family, all of Brookfield, as well as several cousins and many friends. Besides his parents, Fred was predeceased by his brother William and his sister-in-law MaryLou Martin. Funeral Information A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM at Saint Joseph Church in Brookfield on Monday, April 12 with Monsignor Lawrence Carroll presiding. Friends may call at the Brookfield Funeral Home from 4 to 8 PM on Sunday, April 11. Donations Information In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Fred's name to the Holy Family Passionist Retreat Center in West Hartford or to a charity of one's choice.
