Obituary of Ruth Harrison Madlener

Ruth Harrison Madlener April 17, 1930 - June 16, 2010 Ruth Marie Harrison Madlener, died very peacefully, surrounded by her loving husband and family on June 16th at the age of 80 in Boynton Beach, Florida. She was the daughter of Joseph and Maria (Drentwett) Wiedemann. She was born in Canton Ohio and attended schools in New York, graduating from Jamaica High School. In 1953 she made her home in Danbury with her late husband of 34 years, Henry H. Harrison, and their two children, Valerie and Ronald. Ruth devoted her life to her husband and children in a very special way. One of her fondest pleasures was to host holiday and family gatherings in her joyous home surrounded by her loved ones. She took great pleasure in gardening, tennis and her yearly Christmas Cookie Festival, which will always be a family tradition. As her family grew, she was so fond of spending time with her seven cherished grandchildren and attending all of their activities. Ruth was an active principle in the family owned business, Harrison Construction Inc. While making her residence in Danbury she was a parishioner of St. Gregory the Great Church. Ruth began her retirement in Florida with her current husband, Antonius "Tony" Madlener, where she made many wonderful friends. In their 22 years of marriage, she and Tony enjoyed traveling to Europe, Canada, and cross country. Ruth's most memorable were trips to Disney World with her cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren, and her homecomings in the summer and Christmases to Connecticut to be with her beloved family. In her years living in Florida, she was a Sgt for the Boynton Beach Citizen Patrol and was a parishioner of St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church of Delray Beach, and the Perpetual Adoration Chapel. For the last two years, Ruth was cared for by her husband Tony as her devoted caregiver, and Emmy, her Bichon, was always at her side giving much affection. The family will always be thankful for the gentle comforting care given to Ruth by Hospice of Palm Beach County and for their support of the family. She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Valerie McGee and her husband, Edward of Brookfield; her son, Ronald H. Harrison and his wife, Genevieve of Sherman; her stepson, Jan Madlener and Deborah of Toronto, Canada; her seven cherished grandchildren, Edward McGee, Jr. and his wife, Kristen of Brookfield, Ryan H.
