
Obituary of Catherine S. Mitchell
Danbury – Catherine S. “Cathy” (Sullivan) Mitchell, age 81, of Danbury, formerly of New Milford, passed away peacefully on Monday May 29,2023 at Hancock Hall in Danbury.
Catherine was born December 16,1941 in Bronx, New York daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Willard) Sullivan. She was retired after working for many years as office manager and was a long time communicant of St. Gregory the Great Church in Danbury,
Cathy is survived by her family: Alex and Michele Gratzl of Danbury, Suzanne and Scott Benz and their children: Mary, Dianna and Jackson of Danbury and Michael and Alanna Gratzl and their children: Jace and Owen of Southbury and several nieces and nephews.
Cathy spent many years serving the community. She was a proud member and contributor at St. Gregory the Great Church where she taught religious education, worked the Christmas Bazaar and the annual Carnival. She was also an officer of the Brookfield chapter of the AARP and a valued volunteer for the American Cancer Society for many years. Cathy chaired the Annual Car Raffle at the Danbury Fair Mall and ran the Daffodils Days in Brookfield. She coordinated drivers to provide transportation for patients to various cancer appointments and treatments for Danbury and many surrounding towns. Cathy received many awards over the years for her tireless dedication and hard work.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday June 6,2023 at 10 a.m. St. Gregory the Great Church in Danbury. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery in Danbury. There are no calling hours.
