
Obituary of Marilyn Joyce Hassiak
Marilyn Hassiak, 81, of New Milford, beloved wife of the late Donald J. Hassiak, died peacefully at her home on Sunday, March 5th. She was born in Brooklyn, NY on October 24, 1941, daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret (Bych) DeLay. She as a longtime devoted parishioner of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Danbury.
Marilyn worked for the Windmill Diner for many years. She later worked as office manager alongside her husband who owned and operated A’von Auto and Equipment.
She enjoyed gardening all sorts of flowers, cross-stitch and needle point. Marilyn loved to read, enjoyed to true-crime shows. She was also addicted to shopping and had an unforgettable sense of style.
She will be missed by her son, Peter Hassiak; her daughters-in-law, Kim Hassiak and Terri Hassiak; her five grandchildren, Alexis Miller (David), Ashley, Matthew, Luke and DJ Hassiak; and two great grandchildren, Alairia and Thorsten; her sister, Kathy Gaffney (Fred); as well as his “adopted son,” William Michael Daly, his wife, Loren, and their sons Harold and Robert; and many close family friends.
She was predeceased by her son, Donald J. Hassiak II and her brother, Richard DeLay.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 11th at 10:00am at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Burial in Center Cemetery, New Milford, will follow.
The family will receive friends at the Cornell Memorial Home 247 White Street, Danbury, on Friday between the hours of 5:00 – 7:00pm. Marilyn’s wishes were that her services be a happy celebration of her life. With this in mind, and in keeping with her love of fashion, please wear bright colors to services.
