Obituary of Helen Martin

Helen (Gardner) Martin, 98, of Brookfield, CT, beloved wife of the late Robert Martin, died peacefully at Wilton Meadows Health Care Center on Monday, January 30th.  She was born in Yonkers, NY on December 22, 1924, daughter of the late William and Agnes (McGuire) Gardner. 

 

Helen was a graduate of Gorton High School in Yonkers, and Woods Secretarial School in Manhattan. 

 

She and Robert were married on October 29, 1949, at Dayspring Presbyterian Church in Yonkers.  They made their home in Peekskill where they raised their family and attended Peekskill Presbyterian Church.  In 2005 they moved to Brookfield, where Helen was a longtime member of Valley Presbyterian Church. Helen worked for many years for the Peekskill City School System, retiring in 1990.  She was a talented seamstress and also enjoyed knitting, painting and crafts.  

 

She will be sadly missed by her daughters, Barbara Bond and her husband, Larry of Fruita, CO and Joan Fiore and her husband, Guy of Brookfield; and her three grandchildren, Kevin Fiore and his wife, Michelle, Angela Collins and her husband, George and Joseph Fiore; and her great grandchildren, Grace and Luke Fiore. 

 

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 18th at 1:00pm at Valley Presbyterian Church in Brookfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her memory may be made to Valley Presbyterian Church.
