Obituary of Catherine Duggan
Brookfield – Mrs. Catherine (Lividini) Duggan, age 88, of Brookfield, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at the St. John Paul II Center in Danbury. She was the widow of William F. Duggan, Sr.
Catherine was born at home on August 4, 1934, in “da” Bronx, daughter of the late Peter and Isabella (Liotino) Lividini. She was a member of Walton High School’s class of 1952.
Prior to marrying Bill in 1955, Catherine worked at Harcourt Brace in Manhattan, where she was thrilled to have met Carl Sandburg. She made lifelong friends as a long-time communicant of St. Ursula’s Church in Mount Vernon, NY, and with co-workers at Kings Electronics and Ad-Coh. She attended Lehman College, where she completed coursework in teaching and set design.
Together, Catherine and Bill raised their six children on Overlook Street in Mount Vernon, which always had an open door and a warm bed or meal for anyone who happened by. Catherine was an artist, den mother, set designer and actor in many musical theater performances at St. Ursula’s, tap dancer, Yankees fan, and was very active in her “seniors” group in Mount Vernon, with their many trips and shenanigans. She enjoyed her weeks-long road trips with Bill to Florida, making many stops along the way to visit friends. Catherine was proud of her Italian heritage and maintained dual citizenship in the Republic of San Marino.
Upon retirement and the move to Brookfield, Catherine became a communicant of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Brookfield and continued to enjoy gardening, drawing and painting, and trying out new recipes to share. She loved a party and enjoyed nothing more than being surrounded by her large family.
Catherine will be sadly missed by her children, Robert Duggan and his wife, Toba, of Claverack, NY, Michael Duggan and his wife, Theresa, of Larchmont, NY, Lisa Duggan-Santomero (Gary) of Brewster, NY, William Duggan, Jr., (Heather) of Thomaston, CT, Patricia Egan and her husband, Justin, of Bethlehem, CT, and Catherine Mahon and her husband, Timothy, of Lagrange, NY, her brother Joseph Lividini of Mamaroneck, NY, her grandchildren, Erika, Melissa, Hannah, Michael, Mark, Laura, Nicole, Michael, Nicholas, Daniel, Milly, Kieran, Simon, Alexandra, Sara, Grayson, Ashley, Rebecca, and Emily, her 11 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Duggan’s family will receive relatives and friends at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury, CT, on Sunday, September 11, 2022, from 3 to 6 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 12, 2022, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Brookfield. All attending are asked to please meet directly at the church. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY.
