Obituary of Wesley Frank Kurkul

Wesley F. Kurkul, of Danbury, husband of the late Anne (Patren) Kurkul, died peacefully at St. John Paul Center on Friday, July 8th.  He was born on March 5, 1915, celebrating his 107th birthday this year.

He was a longtime resident of Danbury and worked as a hatter and a welder.  He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.  His family was the most important part of his life.

A man with much to say both humorous and historical.  Dad told many stories of his life – all of them entertaining!  He talked about his school years, Danbury during the depression, being a hatter, friends, family, and politics.  The only subject he wouldn’t even discuss was music.  He loved the Big Band Era and as far as he was concerned The Beatles, rap and young kid Elvis should all take music and singing lessons.

He enjoyed reading, gardening and working in his yard.  Best of all, he would watch (babysit) his children and later his grand-children.  A weekend away with Grandma and Grandpa was such a treat – all fun and games – no chores!

Always generous, he would often say, “I can give you something and you will return it to me.” Then he would hug you.

He will be sadly missed by his two children, Donna Fairchild and her husband, Robert, and Gary Kurkul and his wife, Susan; his grandchildren, Kristin, Nathaniel, Samantha, Scott and Erin; and great grandchildren, Alexander, Kaleigh, Nicholas, Joseph, Jordan, Makayla, Landon, Brayan, Isabella, and Tyler.

Funeral services and burial in St. Peter Cemetery will be held privately.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to your favorite cause.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of St. John Paul Center, for their loving care and support.
