Obituary of Carl Heinz Karl

Please share a memory of Carl to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Carl H. Karl, 95, of Brookfield, CT, and longtime resident of Rocky River, OH beloved husband of Elsa (Stumpf) Karl, died at Danbury Hospital on Sunday, October 31st.  He was born in Kreibitz, Czech Republic (Sudetenland) on June 3, 1926, son of the late Johann and Franziszka (Watzek) Karl.

Born and raised in Europe during a tumultuous time, Carl was proud to immigrate to America and become an American citizen in 1956.  He made his home in the Cleveland, Ohio area.  He recently relocated to Brookfield, CT in June to be closer to his daughter and her family.

He owned and operated Carl’s Marathon Service Station in Lakewood, OH, the last of “all full-service” gas stations to close in Cleveland after 27 years. Carl worked at the service station every day except Sunday for those 27 years to provide for his family.

Carl was a devoted husband and father.  He adored his grandsons and was so very proud of all their accomplishments.

Carl leaves behind his cherished wife of 64 years, Elsa, also of Brookfield and Rocky River.

Additionally, he will be missed by his daughter, Dr. Christine Waldron and her husband, Brian of Danbury and his three grandsons, 2nd LT Joseph Waldron, of Fort Leonard Wood, MO, Liam Waldron, of West Point, NY, and Matthew Waldron a sophomore at Danbury High School.

Carl also leaves behind the family of his sister, Fanny Karl Stapleton (deceased), who reside in the Cleveland area.

A Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, November 10th at 10:00am in St. Peter Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening between the hours of 5:00 – 7:00PM.
