Obituary of Cary Russell

Please share a memory of Cary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Cary Russell, 62, of Bethel, CT, beloved husband of Deborah (Vilece) Russell, died in Edison, New Jersey on Sunday, October 3rd.  He was born in Albany, Georgia on July 30, 1959, son of the late John and Margaret (Armstrong) Russell.

He was a proud member of the International Longshoreman’s Association Local 1804-1 for more than 40 years.  He was honored to work alongside his union brothers and sisters and had coworkers that became lifelong friends.

And his friends… Nothing was more important to Cary than his friendships. He had the biggest heart and had been known to literally give people the shirt off of his back. His antics were legendary and he will live on in the stories that will be told by generations. With only a few words he could light up a room and have people laughing. He will always be with us because he lives in the hearts of so many.

In addition to his love of 17 years, Debbie, he is survived by his two sons that he carried in his heart, Cary and Thomas Russell; his stepchildren, Elizabeth McDermott and her husband, Matthew, and Jordan Symon; his brother, Sean Russell; and sisters Margaret “Sandy,” and Tracey Russell.  He is also survived by his lifelong friend, Thomas Kennedy.

The family will receive friends at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Saturday, October 9th between the hours of 12:00 – 3:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Brain Injury Alliance of Connecticut, 200 Day Hill Rd # 250, Windsor, CT 06095 (www.Biact.com)
