Obituary of Peter K Gallagher

Peter K. Gallagher, 88, of Brookfield, beloved husband of Sally (Marcinek) Gallagher, died on Thursday, August 19th at his home, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Bethel on October 17, 1932, son of the late Edward Joseph and Mary (Gorman) Gallagher and attended Bethel High School. He was a graduate of Danbury State Teachers College, and received a Masters Degree and Sixth Year from Fairfield University.  Peter and Sally would have celebrated their 62nd Wedding Anniversary on August 22nd. 

Peter was a Veteran of the United States Army, proudly serving in Korea and Japan at the conclusion of the Korean War. Over the years he shared his stories from those times. 

He began his teaching career in Bethel and continued in the Somers, NY school system, retiring after 35 years. During the summer months, he enjoyed outdoor work including his painting and light construction business. His family has fond memories of their annual vacation to Matunuck Beach, RI where Peter loved fishing, hiking, and the ocean.

In addition to his wife, Sally, he will be sadly missed by his six children, Jean Gallagher, Peter Gallagher Jr. and his wife Jane, Jo Gallagher, Jennifer Carnes and her husband Rodney, Pamela McGlynn and her husband Matthew, and Theresa Gallagher; his grandchildren Ben, Peter and Nicola Gallagher, Jordan and Jack Buchholz, Austin, Turner and Annie Carnes, Noah and Abigail Winzig, Mary McGlynn, and Samuel, Emma and Elliot Krebs. He is also survived by his step-grandchildren, Andrew, Joseph, and Lily McGlynn; and his siblings, Julianne, Phil and Stephen Gallagher of Bethel; and many nieces and nephews. 

Peter was predeceased by his brother, Edward. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church of Brookfield Tuesday, August 24th at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Bethel.

The family will receive friends at Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Monday, August 23rd from 5 to 7 PM.
