Obituary of Nancy Main

Nancy Walker-Main passed away on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at Danbury Hospital surrounded by her family. She was born on September 30, 1963 in Huntington, L.I., NY to the late Jean (Mensing) Walker and Gerald Walker. Nancy made her home in Thomaston.

Nancy attended elementary school in Patchogue, L.I., NY and graduated from Danbury High School, Class of 1981. Upon graduation, Nancy started her storied career in the culinary arts, making salads for a local restaurant. In 1985, she enrolled in one of the finest culinary schools in the country, Johnson and Wales in Providence, RI. Upon graduation, Nancy set out on a journey that would see her working in restaurants across Long Island, NYC and CT, but she found her joy working as the Executive Chef for many prestigious private schools; the Gunnery School, in Washington, the Taft School, in Watertown, and lastly the school she called home, the Berkshire School, in Sheffield, MA. In 2010, Nancy was accepted into the Professional Chef Certification program at the Culinary Institute of America, in Hyde Park, NY. She was proud to be among a select group of professional chefs certifying their skills and completing the course. Along the way, Nancy met and trained under some of the best in the business; Gordon Ramsey, Anthony Bourdain, Mario Batali, Jet Tila, and had a close personal friendship with Robert Irvine. She was an inspired chef.

Nancy married the love of her life, Francis Main, in 2000 and from that point on they were inseparable. Frank and Nancy lived life to the fullest… Jets games, Mets games, fishing off Cape Cod, Daytona Bike Weeks, NASCAR races, motorcycle rides, boating on Long Island Sound and always attending family functions. They were the power couple for anything fun! Sadly,Nancy and the family said goodbye to Frank, who passed away on January 30, 2021 from complications of COVID-19. Her heart would never be the same, she lost her light.

Nancy will always be remembered as a hard-working, fun-loving person that was always there for her family and friends. She left her fingerprints on this world and all our hearts!

Nancy is survived by her two brothers: Robert (Jennifer) Walker of New Milford, and Michael (Carrie) Walker of Willington, and two incredible nephews Thomas and Timothy Walker. She also leaves behind her husband’s wonderful family. She will be missed by many.

The family would like to thank the Danbury Hospital ICU Nursing Staff who took exceptional care of Nancy during her short stay. They are the real heroes in the medical field.

Service will be held at Cornell Memorial Home, Danbury, on July 15, 2021 at 9:00-10:00am, to be followed by burial next to her husband at the State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown at 12:00pm.
