Obituary of Glen Edward Johnson

Brookfield— Mr. Glen E. Johnson, age 79 of Brookfield, died Friday March 19, 2021 at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of Mary (Deakin) Johnson.

Glen was born on October 24, 1941 in Greenwich, CT, son of the late Eric and Mina (Nyberg) Johnson. He was proud to be a first generation American born to parents who both immigrated to the United States in the 1920’s.  He loved his Swedish roots and enjoyed trips with Mary and his children to Sweden to visit family.  Glen graduated with a business degree from Hillsdale College where he played hockey and was a member of the ATO fraternity. He worked for 37 years as a Senior Purchasing Agent at Perkin Elmer, Hughes Optical and retired from Raytheon Optical Systems.  He was most proud of his work on the Hubble Telescope and the KH-9 Hexagon Spy Satellites.  Glen continued playing hockey, softball, and was an avid golfer. He enjoyed puttering in his garage, carving wooden signs and Santa Clauses, tinkering with old things, and considered himself an inventor of sorts. He held a patent for a custom wood planer called the Hew-do-it in 1976. Glen was proud of his children and loved talking about tools and projects with Kirk.  He adored his grandson, Arvid, and watched the videos Becky sent from Sweden over and over again.  Glen loved and was loved by Mary’s family.  He enjoyed trips with Mary’s nieces and nephews who all remember fondly what they learned from him.  He loved food and was involved in the menu planning and cooking for any celebration especially the picnic on Memorial Day. Glen loved his New York Giants and mostly maintained his sense of humor during football season because Mary (and her family) are Washington Football fans. He loved Clive Cussler books, his 1976 Corvette, his next door neighbors and his many lifelong and work friends. Finally, he loved his yellow labradors.  They brought him joy each and every day. Glen served his country in the Army National Guard.

In addition to his wife Mary, Glen is survived by his children: Kirk Johnson and his wife Elizabeth of Killingworth, Becky Kirsten Johnson and her husband Lars Karlsson of Gothenburg, Sweden, his step son John Henry and his wife Jinny of St. Cloud, FL, his grandson Arvid Karlsson, and his yellow lab, Bogey. He was predeceased by his previous wife, Karen, and two brothers, Eric and Chuck.
